lsmmc. studio was created in 2024 and opened to the public in 2025. The mission of the studio is to help facilitate healing through the practice of tattooing.
Using “Could this be Magic? Tattooing as Liberation Work” as a guiding framework, lsmmc. honors the many reasons individuals choose to get tattooed and emphasizes compassion with each client, in every session.
lsmmc. prioritizes Kānaka Maoli clients as well as BIPOC community members. As a trauma-informed, liberation-based studio, lsmmc. strives to create a comfortable, joyful space for all clients.
the artist.
Lia (Lia Sabina Maria Martinez Cook) is the owner and operator of lsmmc. studio. She is a self and community-taught tattoo artist. Art provides Lia with a grounding that they have struggled to find elsewhere. They find that working with their hands provides a direct connection to art and person that is unmatched.
Outside of tattooing, Lia’s current mediums of focus are stained glass, ceramics, and textiles. As a Chicanx, Lia also finds joy in tracing her genealogy and learning more about the curandera rituals practiced by her family. ¡Sí se Puede!
Lia holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and a J.D. from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa William S. Richardson School of Law and works full-time as a policy and research associate for a Native Hawaiian non-profit organization.
the shop dog.
Piper is a 1 yr old poi dog (alleged Pieces/Aquarius cusp). She was adopted from a local animal rescue non-profit on Oʻahu on September 2024. She is currently in training to become an Emotional Support Animal and frequently visits the studio space to practice her budding skills. Piper is a bell pepper lover, water hater, and the ultimate cuddle bug. At the studio, she has a designated space away from clients but is always available for pets and love, as needed.
If you would prefer Piper not be in the space while you are being tattooed, please indicate this on your booking form. It is no problem at all!
