about
lia cook.
bad art enthusiast.
Hi! Thank you for your interest in my work! I am a queer second-generation Mexican-American immigrant with an interest in all things DIY. My current artistic interests focus on textiles, tattooing, ceramics, stained glass, and interior decorating.
My passion for self-made objects and builds stems from growing up in Alaska, where there is no other option but to “DIY.” From an early age, my parents encouraged me to build, repair, and imagine an anti-capitalist, sustainability-centered future.
As a tattoo artist, I utilize a trauma-informed and body sovereignty approach. Using “Could this be Magic? Tattooing as Liberation Work” as a guiding framework, my tattoo practice honors the many reasons individuals choose to get tattooed.
Although I am a lifelong hobbyist, I currently work full-time as an immigration attorney for a non-profit in Maui, HI. Creating helps me stay off burnout and stress.
When I’m not creating, you can find me playing with my dog, Piper, gardening, swimming, or reading. My current book recommendation is: Capital City: Gentrification and the Real Estate State by Samuel Stein.
I am always open to trades! If you’re an artist seeking to trade, please email me at lia@lsmmc.com!
Mil gracias for your interest.
