tenets of tattooing
Client Comfort & Safety
Client comfort and safety are prioritized at every appointment. The practice of informed consent is of tantamount importance at lsmmc. studio. Consent practices are employed throughout each client’s appointment to ensure the client’s continued safety and comfort. Examples include describing the tattoo process, before, during, and after the session, routine check-ins during the tattoo, and the option for additional privacy screens/garments.
Body Sovereignty
lsmmc. is grounded in promoting body sovereignty. Through the practice of tattooing, lsmmc. studio works with clients to build agency for themselves and their bodies. Tattoo work facilitates the reconnection between body, mind, and the sovereignty of self. The praxis behind lsmmc. is to work with clients to reclaim authority and agency over their bodies, record their history, and resist erasure.
Shop Environment
Tattoo studios hold the ability to be powerful realms of community building and transformation. lsmmc. studio works to harness this potential with each appointment. The studio space is located on the second floor of a secured building. The space is fragrance-free, and quiet, with a combination of natural and overhead lighting. Noise-canceling headphones are available at the time of your appointment and are disinfected after use. As stated above, client comfort and safety are of the utmost priority.
Economic Accessibility
At lsmmc. studio, the ritual of tattooing embodies a relational practice rather than purely transactional. Flash tattoos are currently priced at a flat rate of $75. However, lsmmc. studio also understands that structural inequities may prevent some community members from being able to afford this rate. All individuals deserve to feel at home in their bodies and lsmmc. studio works to accommodate individuals unable to afford the flat rate. Please email lia@lsmmc.com if you are seeking to book a tattoo but are facing financial insecurity.
